Blind Cricket Overview

The home of blind cricket is Melbourne, Australia where the sport was invented in 1922. The first ground and clubhouse was built in 1928 which is still the home of the Victorian Blind Cricket Association and is now the spiritual home of Blind Cricket.

Blind Cricket was first played in England and Wales in the 1940’s. It is played with an adapted set of the MCC cricket rules. Teams field 11 players the same as sighted cricket.

Like many disability sports there are categories of blindness. B1 being totally blind through to B4 which is partially sighted. A team must field 4 B1 category players.

Instead of a Cricket ball a size 3 Football fitted with ball bearings is used. This ball must bounce twice after the bowler has shouted play for it to count and not be a no ball.

B1 category fielders may catch the ball off one bounce and must be bowled LBW twice before being out.
