Canoe Overview

The origins of the sport can be traced back 6000 years with evidence of kayaking and human-powered ocean-going vessels having been found all over the world. The modern day sport has rapidly developed over the last 70 years and technological advancements have ensured that today's canoes are lightweight and highly manoeuvrable. The British Canoe Union was set up in 1936 in order to send a team to the Berlin Olympics in 1936.

Canoeing has appeared at every Olympic Games since 1936. Events now take place on both Flatwater and Slalom courses. (Classes:- C-1, C-2, K-1, K-2, K-4.)
