Disability Swimming Overview
Swimming was included on the programme for the first Paralympic Games in Rome, 1960. One of the main sports; athletes compete in backstroke (50m/100m), breaststroke (50m/100m), butterfly (50m/100m), freestyle (50m/100m/200m/400m), medley (150m/200m) and relay events (4 x 50m/100m Freestyle & Medley).
The sport is open to athletes from all disability groups but not all events are open.
