Guidance for Use (Under 18s)
The child protection procedures were drawn up specifically for Catch Sport with the assistance and advice of the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit and conform to current child protection legislation and standards.
Catch Sport recognises that a significant percentage of its registered athletes will be under the age of 18. Whilst we do not wish to discourage the use of our services to young people we do strongly encourage our users to be aware of the risks involved in using a web based service. As such, in addition to the General guidance, Catch Sport will also;
- Insist that all athletes under the age of 18 who register to the site can only do so with authorisation from a parent/guardian. The name and email address of the athlete’s parent/guardian will need to be provided upon registration. This will be validated and an authorisation email will be sent to parent/guardian;
- Require any Profile modifications/amendments made by an athlete under the age of 18 to be authorised by their nominated parent/guardian. An email will be generated;
- Restrict athletes under the age of 18 from entering certain information into their Online Profile (e.g. postal address, telephone numbers etc);
- Ensure that no athlete under the age of 18 is the sole signatory on any sponsorship contract.
Catch Sport advocates safe surfing for all especially those most at risk including under 18. Most of today’s publicly available guidance is recommended for those under the ages of 12 and 16. However Catch Sport recognises that those involved in the sport must be particularly vigilant when it comes to the safety of young people. Therefore all of the special measures above are in place for any user under the age of 18.
