Handball Overview

Whilst most believe the sport to be a relatively new practice, the predecessors of the modern sport can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans. Evolving through the years the modern game is an amalgamation of sports played in Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Germany and Sweden.

Its inaugural Olympic appearance was at the 1936 Games in Berlin where it was played outside on turf pitches. The indoor version of the sport appeared for the first time at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
