Wheelchair Rugby Overview

Wheelchair Rugby, previously known as "murderball", is unique to the Paralympic Games. The sport was invented in Canada in the 1970s by people who had become quadriplegics as the result of spinal cord injuries to the neck. Believed to be the fastest growing wheelchair sport it became a demonstration sport at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, gaining full medal status fours years later at the Sydney Games.

Similar to Wheelchair Basketball, athletes are allocated points (0.5 - 3.5) based on their physical ability. Teams of four play the game and each team is allowed player whose points total does not exceed 8.
