Sailing-Paralympic Overview

Introduced as a demonstration event at the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games, sailing became a full medal sport in 2000 at the Sydney Games. There are two events, namely, the Sonar event (23 foot keelboats with a 3 person crew) and the 2.4mR (a single-handed keelboat). Men and women can compete in both events with a disability-multiplier scoring system. This allows for athletes with different disabilities to compete together.

The sport is open to amputee, cerebral palsy, visually impaired, wheelchair and les autres athletes.
