Shooting-Paralympic Overview

Shooting joined the Paralympic program at the 6th Games in Arnhem, 1980. The competition is split into rifle and pistol events, air and .22 calibre. Participants shoot from three positions, namely, standing or sitting, kneeling and prone. There are events for men, women, mixed and teams (though team events are not held at the Paralympics).

The sport is open to athletes with a physical disability and there are two main classes of competition, namely, Main Shooting Classes (SH1; no shooting stand required), and SH2 Rifle (stand required).
