Disability Skiing Overview

Alpine Skiing consists of four events, namely, Downhill, Super-G, Giant Slalom and Slalom. Downhill racing was introduced as a demonstration sport at the Geilo Games in 1980; Giant Slalom held a similar status at the Innsbruck Games, 1984; Sit-skiing started as an Alpine event in1988. The sport is open to athletes with a physical disability or a visual impairment.

Nordic Skiing is a combination of cross-country skiing and shooting events. Open to athletes with a visual impairment or physical disability. A guide is used for participants with a visual impairment who must be as proficient as their blind partner to compete for medals. Athletes with paralysis use a sit-ski.
