Roller Hockey Overview

Roller Hockey is a non-contact ball game played on regular ‘quad’ roller skates. It was invented in England in 1896 and is played by two teams of 5 players.

The game is played with a hard ball and a 2 sided stick more similar to a field hockey stick than an ice hockey one. The tactics of the game are similar to that of Basketball, with screens, blocks and set plays.

Although roller hockey was invented in England it is most popular in the Latin countries such as Spain, Portugal and Argentina where you have professional teams such as FC Barcelona and FC Porto. The sport was even included in the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Programme as a demonstration sport.
