Tae Kwon Do Overview

The sport was developed in Korea and is based on the idea that man instinctively defends himself/herself from sudden attacks. Therefore it can be said that Tae Kwon Do was born in the earliest of human civilisations. As a sport Tae Kwon Do dates back to 37BC when Kojoomong of the Kokooryo Kingdom introduced the cultural principle of “respect Senior or older, love Junior or younger” into the practice. The oldest form of martial arts, Tae Kwon Do has been developed in Korea over the last 2000 years coming to prominence in the rest of the world over the last 50 years.

Introduced at the Olympics in 2000 (Sydney) men and women compete in knockout tournaments at 4 different weight categories each.
