Ultimate Frisbee Overview
Ultimate Frisbee was created in 1968 by Joel Silver a member of the Columbia High School Newspaper and school council. He adapted the rules of Frisbee Football which he played whilst attending a summer camp. The sport got the name of Ultimate as a result of Joel describing the game as the ‘Ultimate Sports Experience’.
In 1979 and 1980 the Ultimate Players Association (UPA) was formed following the formation of the European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) in 1981. They in turn created the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) in 1984 as the world governing body of the sport.
Ultimate was included as a full medal sport in the World Games in 1991.
