Water Skiing and Wakeboarding Overview

Competitive water skiing is divided into seven sports divisions:-

- Barefoot

- Cable

- Disabled

- Kneeboard

- Racing

- Tournament

- Wakeboard (boat and cable)


Of these only Kneeboard has no European or World titled events. The rest of the divisions have European and World Championships every one or two years. The IWSF was originally found in 1955. In 1967 the IWSF was recognized the first time by the International Olympic Comity in Tehran. At the Olympics in 1972 in Munich, Waterski was the first time Demonstration Sport and part of the Olympic Games. In 1998 IWSF managed it, that Wakeboard was officially recognized by the IOC.


The IWWF is also member of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF).
