Windsurfing Overview

Windsurfing is a very young sport. Its roots can be traced back to the garages of two Californians; Jim Drake a sailor and Hoyle Shweitzer a surfer. In 1968 they patented the windsurfer and the sport of windsurfing was born. In the 1970’s and 80’s windsurfing took the world by storm and it was included as an Olympic sport for the first time in the 1984 Los Angles Games.

There are many different types of competition with varying styles of board. These are Olympic Windsurfing class, Formula Windsurfing class, Slalom, Speed racing, Freestyle, Wave and Windsurfer one design.
