Catch Sport Celebrates 20 Years of Agility and Launches New Commentary Training Service to Empower Next Generation of Sports Broadcasters

DEVON, UK – November 28, 2025

Catch Sport, the specialist sports communications and broadcasting consultancy, today marks its 20th anniversary by launching a comprehensive Sports Commentary Training Service. The launch highlights two decades of the company's foundational ethos: creating adaptive, athlete-centric solutions while continuously breaking the mould of traditional sports marketing.

Founded by former international athlete Karim Bashir, Catch Sport has redefined its approach across sponsorship, communications, and broadcasting, demonstrating an exceptional ability to pivot while maintaining a core commitment to empowering athletes from non-mainstream disciplines.

Karim Bashir, Managing Director of Catch Sport, reflected on the milestone:

“It's a proud moment for sure. That said, there is no doubt that we've broken the mould at every step and stepped on toes right from the start. Put simply, it was unavoidable. To get athletes from sports like mine sponsorship, the agent model just didn't work—ours did. That niche offering earned respect, first from the British Athletes Commission and clients followed, for which I'm immensely grateful. Fuelled by this faith in doing things the right way, we've maintained an ethos of being the sports marketing & communications company embedded in empowering athletes whilst delivering to our clients."

The Science and Art of Commentary

The new Sports Commentary Training Service is designed to formalise the knowledge and techniques Bashir acquired during his own unexpected transition from fencing expert to an international commentator covering over 30 sports, including multiple summer and winter, Olympic, Paralympic, Asian and Pan-American Games.

The rigorous programme targets both newcomers and experienced live stream commentators seeking to transition to more regular broadcast and television work. Crucially, the service was developed and refined through extensive testing, ensuring practical value for those looking to level up their careers.

Catie Friend, a respected Ski Mountaineering commentator with four years of streaming experience, participated in the beta test programme and provided a powerful endorsement of the service’s impact:

“I am a commentator with four years of streaming experience. I have worked for federations and multi-sport events and I was at the frustrating stage of knowing what I didn’t know. Karim’s course would be perfect for brand new commentators but it was also absolutely ideal for me, ready to learn more about the preparation process, the production unit and, as he puts it, ‘the science as well as the art’ behind being a great commentator. I was reassured about what I already knew and learned so much to help with those nagging doubts I had every time I stepped into the booth, at which point it is a bit late to start asking questions! The course is extremely thorough, the assessments require a lot of real work but are enormously beneficial and worthwhile putting in the hours. Karim’s feedback is concise, knowledgeable and delivered in such a way that I felt encouraged rather than disheartened. When I listened back to my final assessment, I was genuinely thrilled to hear the difference in my delivery. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get into commentary or wants to level up their current experience.”

Part of Britain's commentary elite became aware of Bashir's new training programme whilst they were working together on another project. Rob Walker was keen to get involved and was welcomed onto the training team without hesitation. Talking about the project, Walker said:

"Karim has come up with a level of training not seen or thought of before. It’s a privilege to make a living commentating on live sport and as such those of us who do, owe it to the next generation of broadcasters to give them the tools to shine in their careers. Karim’s course is the way to do that. I’m looking forward to sharing my experience with the participants and helping them take first steps to a very satisfying and rewarding way of life."

Looking Forward

The launch marks a significant moment for the company as it cements its future direction in broadcasting expertise and career development.

Bashir concluded: “It's always been about getting it right for athletes and clients alike—and it's worked. I'm proud of what we've achieved and our ability to adapt has been the cornerstone of our success allowing us to create a brand new service. I'm extremely excited to be able to share the knowledge I've gained commentating on over 30 sports both as an expert and presenter with the next generation."

Catch Sport will be offering a 50% discount to the first five candidates who subscribe to the training programme.
